Residential Waiver Policy
Song vs Song Sports League (SvS)
The Song vs Song Sports League (SvS) Residential Waiver provides a process for prospective Players who reside outside the established residential radius of an SvS franchise to request permission to participate in that franchise's Draft.
The Residential Waiver is a league-wide policy applicable to all current and future SvS franchises.
1. Standard Residential Eligibility
Each SvS franchise operates within a designated geographic market and maintains a league-approved residential radius for Draft eligibility.
Unless otherwise established by the League, a prospect must reside within the applicable franchise's residential radius to participate in that franchise's Draft.
For example, the Seven Cities Series (SCS) currently maintains an 80-mile residential radius from Newport News, Virginia.
A prospect who resides outside a franchise's established residential radius must receive an approved SvS Residential Waiver to participate in that franchise's Draft.
2. Residential Waiver
A Residential Waiver permits an otherwise eligible prospect who resides outside the applicable franchise's residential radius to participate in its Draft process.
Approval of a Residential Waiver:
- Does not guarantee advancement through the Draft process.
- Does not guarantee selection to a franchise roster.
- Does not provide preferential consideration during evaluations or selections.
- Does not exempt the prospect from Draft fees, roster fees, eligibility standards, attendance requirements, or other applicable League and franchise requirements.
Once approved, the prospect will be evaluated under the same competitive standards applicable to other eligible prospects participating in that franchise's Draft.
Acceptance of an approved Residential Waiver constitutes the prospect's agreement to comply with all conditions of the waiver and applicable Draft participation requirements.
3. Travel Responsibility
Prospects participating under a Residential Waiver are responsible for arranging and paying for all travel necessary to participate in required in-person Draft activities.
Expenses may include, but are not limited to:
- Transportation
- Airfare
- Fuel
- Lodging
- Meals
- Local transportation
- Parking
- Other personal travel expenses
Neither SvS nor the participating franchise is responsible for reimbursing or providing travel, lodging, meals, or other personal expenses associated with a prospect's participation unless expressly authorized in writing by the League or franchise.
4. Required In-Person Participation
Approval of a Residential Waiver does not exempt a prospect from required in-person Draft activities.
Depending on the franchise's Draft structure, required activities may include:
- Live Evaluations — Prospects selected to advance to an in-person evaluation must appear at the designated location on the scheduled date and time.
- Selection Rounds / Draft Day — Prospects who advance to a stage requiring in-person participation must attend as required by the League or franchise.
- Other Mandatory Draft Activities — The League or franchise may designate additional Draft-related activities as mandatory when necessary.
Failure to attend or complete a required activity may result in removal from the Draft process, loss of Draft eligibility, and the penalties established under this policy.
5. Residential Waiver Compliance & $500 Penalty
A prospect who applies for and accepts an approved Residential Waiver is responsible for adhering to the terms and conditions of that waiver.
If an approved Residential Waiver prospect fails to fulfill the requirements of the waiver, including required participation or attendance obligations, the prospect may be assessed a $500 Residential Waiver Penalty.
This penalty is separate from any Draft, evaluation, roster, registration, or other League or franchise fees previously paid or otherwise owed.
Assessment of the penalty may also result in the prospect's removal from the applicable Draft process or loss of eligibility for that Draft.
Outstanding Penalty and Future Eligibility
Any assessed Residential Waiver Penalty must be paid in full before the individual is eligible for any future participation in the Song vs Song Sports League or any SvS franchise.
Until the outstanding penalty is satisfied, the individual will be considered ineligible for League participation, including but not limited to:
- Future SvS franchise Drafts
- Draft declarations or applications
- Evaluations
- League or franchise roster eligibility
- Player registration
- League-sanctioned competitive participation
Payment of an outstanding penalty restores the individual's ability to seek future eligibility but does not guarantee acceptance into a future Draft, selection to a roster, approval of another Residential Waiver, or participation in any League or franchise event.
6. If a Residential Waiver Prospect Is Drafted
A Residential Waiver addresses residential eligibility only.
If a prospect participating under a Residential Waiver is drafted, that Player becomes subject to all applicable SvS and franchise roster requirements.
The Player remains responsible for satisfying required roster obligations, including applicable roster fees, Player agreements, competition requirements, appearances, and other League or franchise requirements.
Once drafted and all applicable roster requirements are fulfilled, the Player officially becomes a Music-Sports Athlete.
7. Regular-Season and Postseason Travel
Unless otherwise provided by the League, franchise, Player Agreement, sponsorship arrangement, or other written agreement, a Player residing outside their franchise's residential territory is responsible for the travel necessary to fulfill mandatory in-person competition and Player obligations.
This may include:
- Live regular-season competitions
- Divisional Championships
- SvS Playoffs
- Championship events
- Required media activities
- Required franchise or League appearances
- Other mandatory in-person activities
Approval of a Residential Waiver does not create an obligation for SvS or a franchise to provide or reimburse Player travel expenses.
8. Franchise Assignment and League Authority
A Residential Waiver applies only to the franchise and Draft for which it is approved.
Approval to participate in one franchise's Draft does not automatically establish eligibility for another SvS franchise.
As SvS expands into additional markets, the League may establish or modify franchise territories, residential radiuses, eligibility standards, and waiver procedures to protect competitive balance and franchise market integrity.
SvS reserves the right to approve or deny Residential Waiver requests in accordance with applicable League eligibility rules.
9. Prospect Acknowledgment
By applying for and accepting an SvS Residential Waiver, the prospect acknowledges that:
- 1. The prospect resides outside the standard residential radius established for the applicable SvS franchise.
- 2. The prospect is voluntarily requesting an exception to the franchise's standard residential eligibility requirement.
- 3. The prospect is responsible for arranging and paying for travel required to participate in mandatory in-person Draft activities.
- 4. Approval does not guarantee advancement, Draft selection, or a roster position.
- 5. If drafted, the Player remains responsible for fulfilling all applicable League and franchise requirements.
- 6. Residential Waiver status does not automatically entitle the prospect or Player to travel reimbursement, lodging, or other financial assistance from SvS or the franchise.
- 7. The waiver applies only to the franchise and Draft for which it was approved.
- 8. Failure to adhere to the terms and requirements of an approved Residential Waiver may result in a $500 Residential Waiver Penalty.
- 9. Any assessed Residential Waiver Penalty must be paid in full before the individual may participate in any future SvS Draft or other League or franchise activity.
- 10. Payment of an outstanding penalty does not guarantee future Draft acceptance, waiver approval, roster selection, or League participation.
Approval of a Residential Waiver provides an opportunity to compete for a roster position. It does not alter the competitive standards or participation obligations required to earn and maintain one.
